"It's All Just abit Fucked"

Can you introduce yourself?

Hi, I’m Luke Evans I’m 22 years old, and I’m currently working in Music Business and Talent scouting.

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Clifton, just a plain boring village outside of Ashbourne

What made you fall in love with the music industry?

I think unlike most industries, the music industry is always changing like you can’t put your finger on it there is always something new, whether it be a new genre or the rise of an old one, or a new trend in the production styles, the industry is just a whirlwind and there is always something new on the scene offering something fresh.

What aspects of the music industry need to change?

It’s all just a bit fucked haha, but yeah a few things need to change... personally I think that when you go to a concert they shouldn’t publish what time the main act goes on stage, cuz people more often than not decide to miss the supporting acts; which is fine but they are just as important as the main acts especially when they are trying to make it in the industry too... I also think ticket prices need to change like they’re fucking rediculous on Rolling Stones’ last tour their tickets cost £470... like how can you justify paying that much to see someone, and how can cut out the majority of your fans who can’t afford prices like that and still be ok with it...

What is the music industry like in the rural area?

I think the music industry in the rural area is really difficult like it is definitely not there on your doorstep, but you just have to keep working and trying to find the right route which works for you, there isn’t much of a music scene but the more you get talking to people and the more you get your name out there you will find something.

Have you got anything lined up for the future?

Yeah, so I’m just between things at the minute, I am going on a 3-month course in L.A with point-blank, just to learn a few new things and to get my name out there and then after that, I’m gonna invest my time into small intimate record labels... I think they put the music first compared to the bigger companies who just capitalise from artists.

What advice would you give rural creatives who are looking to get a job in the music industry?

I’ve learnt quite a few bits whilst working, the main thing is that as long as you love what you’re doing then you’re halfway there because this will help you with your determination and dedication... Persistence is also key like I know its a huge cliche but it is true... I’ve found you kind of have to turn it into an obsession like I’ve found people want to know your music knowledge like whether it be the terminology or just by being able to identify and reference samples, that’s when they appreciate you that little bit more”
